Vice President, Labour Relations & Healthy Workplace

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the VP of Labour Relations and Healthy Workplace, leads strategic efforts in employee and labour relations, including collective bargaining, grievance management, and performance management. We are looking for a relational leader who will play a pivotal role in enhancing our current employee engagement culture and oversee the Healthy Workplace branch, directing programs related to health and safety culture, ergonomics, disability management, and mental health to meet WSIB's diverse business needs.

Strategic Planning & Development

·       Provide visionary leadership in employee and labour relations, cultivating a culture of health, safety, high performance, and wellness within a fast-paced, dynamic environment with ever changing priorities.

·       Use sharp analytical and problem-solving skills to develop corporate strategies, skillfully negotiate in collective bargaining, and oversee robust health, safety and wellness programs.

·       Co-create with peers and demonstrate astute financial and resource management to enhance the effectiveness of this influential role.

Functional Leadership

·       Strategically manage employee and labour relations, staying updated on contract language, legal decisions, and HR-related legislation.

·       Chair collective bargaining and lead grievance management activities

·       Oversee the Healthy Workplace branch, emphasizing innovative mental health initiatives, ensuring compliance with disability management legislation, and cultivating a robust organizational culture centered on mental health and wellness, driving towards a psychologically safe workplace.

·       Collaborate with the Business Ethics branch to address matters related to the code of conduct, human rights, and investigations.

Relationship Management

·       Build positive relationships with union executives and serve as a trusted advisor to all levels within the organization.

·       Cultivate external partnerships and leverage strong leadership and foster collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders, strengthening our organization's labour and employee relations.

·       Effectively navigate a complex unionized environment and manage third-party vendors and legal counsel for human rights and labour relations.

Quality & Risk Management

·       Oversee labour relations and workplace health & wellness programs, ensuring compliance with policies and legislation.

·       Establish metrics, identify risks, and identify opportunities for improvement and coach staff for integration, investigate issues, and suggest resolutions to enhance processes.

·       Maintain ongoing compliance with policies and regulations as a key responsibility.

Qualifications

·       Undergraduate Degree in Business, Industrial relations, or equivalent field with 15 years of relevant experience, including 8-10 years of progressive senior-level management experience. 

·       A deep understanding of current labour, employment, and human rights laws, along with related statutes and jurisprudence.  

·       Hold professional qualifications like CHRL or a related designation, and possibly an LL.B.
